Bruno Fernandes apologises to Manchester United fans after 3-0 drubbing against Bournemouth
Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, has issued a sincere apology following the team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Despite a positive momentum from their recent victory over Chelsea, where they claimed several prestigious monthly awards, including Erik ten Hag as Manager of the Month, Harry Maguire as Player of the Month, and Alejandro Garnacho with Goal of the Month, the team faltered early in the Bournemouth match.
In the fifth minute, a lapse in defense allowed Lewis Cook to seize possession, advancing and providing an opportunity for Dominic Solanke to score.
Despite maintaining possession, United struggled to create significant scoring chances.
Bournemouth capitalized on this, securing their first-ever victory at the Theatre of Dreams with goals from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi in the second half.
Expressing his dismay after being booked and consequently ruled out for the next match against Liverpool, Fernandes admitted the team’s performance was subpar.
He took responsibility, stating, “The performance we did today was not acceptable, starting with me. I think everyone agrees in the dressing room that our performance was not at our level, and we have to perform much better.”
When questioned about the inconsistency in their performances, Fernandes acknowledged the team’s struggle to replicate excellence after a victory, emphasizing the need for consistency.
He remarked, “I don’t know if it’s a lack of concentration or focus or something else, but it’s something that we have to be aware of that after winning a game, we have to get that consistency of winning again.”
Reflecting on their upcoming challenge against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Fernandes sees it as an opportunity for redemption.
Despite Bayern’s recent loss to Frankfurt, he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. “Of course, it’s good. We know the next game is going to be really tough. We have to win, and obviously waiting for a good result in the other game.
But we have to do our job first of all, thinking and understanding that it’s going to be tough for us, but we are more than able to get the result.” The captain’s optimism signals a determination to overcome their recent setback and regain their winning form.
